Project Title: Alteration and conservation of historic plasterworks (GYPSCON)
Research objectives: The main objective is the study of the technological influence (calcination conditions and presence of organic additives) on performance, durability, and alteration processes undergone by traditional gypsum plasterwork in order to establish adequate future conservation treatments and design compatible gypsum-based materials for heritage conservation and sustainable new construction.
Tasks:
1) In situ and laboratory characterization of historic gypsum plasters to understand their alteration processes with special consideration of the influence of organic additives.
2) Evaluation of the effect of the calcination conditions of the gypsum stone and the influence of organic additives on the properties of plaster mock-ups and their durability upon accelerated/natural aging. Comparison of their alteration behavior with deterioration phenomena observed in original historic plasters with special consideration of the influence of organic additives and extreme conditions due to climate change.
Contract details: 1-year full-time contract with option of extension starting in September/October 2026, competitive salary (M3).
Requirements: Master in Conservation, Material Science, Chemistry or related fields.
